Introductory Consultation:

A meeting at your home, or the property in question, where we discuss your goals and how I can help you to achieve them.

Concept Design:

The goals discussed at our first meeting would be more formally stated as the “Program” for the project.  I would spend the better part of a day or two at the property to document conditions and to become intimately familiar with the environment. Factors such as mature trees, noise, views from and into the property, and the path of the sun need to be considered. These become the basis and inspiration for a design presentation: floor plans, sketches and formal artwork. The design presentation leads to a further and more focused discussion of the Program and ultimately to an expression of our collaboration.

Documents:

These are technical drawings and specifications based on the final version of the Concept Design. These drawings are used for bidding and become a part of the Contract for Construction. They are also used to apply for the building permit.

Administration:

This phase covers all services performed after the drawings are submitted for a building permit. This includes the permit process as well as responding to inquiries from the builder. We provide regular observation of construction as the work proceeds – all the way through completion. This is the only way to fully realize the design that we have created together.

Interiors and Fine Details:

Trim, mouldings, cabinetry, finish materials and layouts, specialty stone work and carpentry, lighting, hardware, and even furniture. We are often called upon to lead or assist efforts in these areas. Getting these things right will be the difference between ‘building’ and building beautifully.
